I'm Old...

Recently there has been a surprise surge of talking to ppl I used to live with. While spending so much time in front of the computer studying (and facebook-ing as well), I talked to 2 people that were my neighbours back in the condominium I used to live in.
.
The 1st person was Jia Jen(JJ). Haha..this guy damn funny la, the amount of time I spend with this guy was like more than the amount of time I spent with any other person in the condo. How I met him is a funny story actually. You see when I was in primary skool, while waiting for my transport to arrive, I met this small girl. Her name is Xin Yan. She was the talkative one cos I don simply say hi to small girls..haha..Anyway, whenever I mentioned of something, she would always go, "My brother can do this, my brother can do that." She had nothing but praise for this 'brother' of hers. Fast forward a few years, my cousin came to my hse once and we went to the basketball court to play some games. My cousin noticed his fren from skool and asked me, "Do u noe that guy?" I said no, hence an introduction was made. JJ is a year younger than me and we share similar interests. So after becoming rather close, one day I went to his hse. Surprise surprise I saw that small girl there so I asked, "What are u doing here?" She replied, "I live here!! What are u doing here?" -.- Then it struck me that I have met her 'full of praise' brother. We moved from Street Fighter to playing basketball, to playstation, to basketball again then to Fifa/Counterstrike.
.
The next person was Ai Yee. Aaahh..the girl I chat with while waiting for transport in early secondary. Its always the waiting for transport. Hardly spoke much with her after I moved out but we chat recently and realised so much has changed. Like now we are both in universities, I'm in Aus while she's in UK (Uni Reading).
.
.
Of course I have made plans to go back and visit them. Can hardly wait, they were the big part of my childhood. So many memories, disregarding fond ones or not.
.
Its not until I saw pictures of Xin Yan again that it struck me how much time flies by. I mean that was the talkative girl. That was the girl that me and JJ teamed up to bully (wahahaha..bully small kid). That was the small girl that we picked fights with and chased me around the house when she got mad at us. I think I remembered that she cried on one occasion -___-" But she's all grown up now. Elegant and pretty, (a bit the camwhore as well..lol). I mean yea la, I was nerdy and geeky back then but this is like some 7 years ago. And 7 years ago memories usually arent very clear when u think of them. 7 years ago should be quite vague by now but its not. All I can feel now, is I'm getting old!!...

Hysterical rantings

I juz read XiaXue's blog (rare for me nowadays since I don't visit it as much as I used to) and she ranted alot...as in really alot. But I must say, it has been one of her best posts ever. Sticking to the roots, XiaXue I believe became famous bcos of her no holding back attitude in lashing out at ppl and cursing profanities left, right, and centre. Its a credible attitude standing out strong for a girl, but lately, she has become more and more about the girls stuff like how to put make up, buy wat clothes la and all those luxury stuff. Yea, of course its her blog she can do watever she wants with it and I'm pretty sure her big fan base consists of women...
.
.
Back to her rantings she did an amazing speakout on why she hates smokers which I did enjoy reading. If u can ignore the amount of F words she uses perhaps u can really notice the point she is trying to make.
.
.
But the last part was a rant about a manager of a steak house that refused to change the steak for them bcos it has too much fats. She requests for the steak to be changed but the manager didn't allow it because it was already half-eaten. Well, XiaXue claims it was not even half-eaten but it all depends on each parties side of the story. The point is the proportion of the eaten-steak is not the point of contention but rather the amount of fats in the steak and the ridiculous manager of not wanting to change it.
You noe the terms where customer is always right and everything, that wat the customer requests it shud be given. Well, its true that if a customer is paying for the food/goods he shud be satisfied with it. After all, they are the ones paying for it. So in this case, the manager shud have just apologised and tend to her requests. Heck, even Kenny Rogers have this j'ust say yes' policy where they value the customers experience instead of debating with them EVENTHOUGH they are wrong. The logic behind this is that if the customer is satisfied with the service and happy with the way things were handled, they'd probably tell their frens to come as well or they will certainly return again to eat there. Put more effort into serving the customer and they will return, with more ppl as well - an indirect benefit, foreseeing increased revenue in the future.
Obviously we hope that all restaurants ideally practise this in real life. The sad reality of life is that this is not wat actually happens. I've worked in the food industry, and I've talked to many ppl who has worked in the food industry. Just for the consumers sake, DON"T EVER PISS OFF THE WAITER!! Its really not a good position to be in. By right, even if the waiter is wrong, point it out and dun make him angry. Remember, the waiter is the person who serves u the food, and he'll be the last one to touch the food before it reaches u!! Alert now?
Yes, waiters have their pride, their ego, their self-esteem not get humiliated or scolded. While they cant fight back cos they'll lose their job if the do argue with the customer they find other ways to get back at u. I had a work colleague(not Kenny Rogers) who was angry at a customer who was being very picky, he rubbed the burger meat on the kitchen floor before serving it. I had a fren who got angry because the customer yelled at him, he spit into the drink. You've seen it in movies as well, and it really happens!! Its sad because the consumers in the food industry becomes the victim. Either u speak to the waiter politely or u suck it up and be satisified.
Considering the big scene that XiaXue made, I'm just about 80% sure that something has gone into the new steak. Especially when tones were raised like that. I mean steak is black!!, u cant notice if it has been dropped on the floor or rubbed against dirt, maybe not till its already in your mouth!! This doesnt even count the hygene conditions in the kitchen. Food dropping on the floor? Applying the 3 sec rule where u pick up the food within 3 secs? Haha...u might think its unfair, but just ask anyone who works in a food industry, I'm pretty sure its the same. Never mess with the waiter, they have many ways to 'season' ur food, and there's no exception, even fine-dining restaurants. But to be fair to them, some rude customers can really be a pain in the neck....
